
TAWAU: Some 1,887 individuals were inspected during a two-day integrated operation by Esscom in waters off Pulau Sebatik and the Old CIQ Jetty last Thursday and Friday.
Esscom Commander DCP Victor Sanjos said a 68 boats were also inspected.
“Of the 1,887 individuals, eleven were illegal immigrants from Indonesia,” he said. They were handed over to the Immigration Department for further action.
Another two out of the nine individuals suspected of drug offences were detained after they were found positive for Methamphetamine.

Read more The operation was aimed at combating smuggling of controlled, subsidised and untaxed goods, as well as prevent illegal immigrants from entering the State.
The operation was also aimed at enforcing the law against other offences especially at the main entry and exit gates at the Malaysian-Indonesian border on Sebatik.
The operation also involved the armed forces to ensure public safety in the Esszone is at its optimum level. A total of 66 officers and personnel from various agencies and departments took part.
Victor said it was part of the Operasi Sanggah Esscom to strengthen existing operations under the police, armed forces and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency in Esszone.
This was in line with Esscom’s goal of “no day is without operations” to ensure Sabah’s east coast remains safe and under control at all times.
He said Esscom would continue to intensify its operations and urged the public to channel information related to security within Esszone to Esscom’s Operations Centre at 089-863 181 or through the WhatsApp at 011-63311072.
