Esscom records seizures of RM24 million goods in 2024

LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) recorded seizures worth a total of RM24 million during its “Ops Sanggah” in 2024.

Esscom Commander Datuk Victor Sanjos said the largest portion of the seizures, valued at RM18 million, involved smuggling cases of cigarettes, alcohol and non-taxable controlled goods.

AdvertisementThe operation included physical inspections of 2.1 million individuals, vehicles and boats.

“From these inspections, 536 individuals were arrested, and 227 vehicles and boats were seized for various offences.

Also present were Esscom Deputy Commander Brigadier General Mohamad Ismail Kamarudin, security staff heads, public division directors and other personnel.

“This is important to assist the Government in maintaining peace through sustainable security and well-being initiatives to ensure sustainable economic growth and development for Sabah, especially in the Esszone (Eastern Sabah Security Zone).

He said the first focus is to strengthen cooperation or collaboration within Esscom and with external departments and agencies through strategic collaboration.

“The second is innovation and improvement as dynamic security threats drive us to adopt new technologies and stay one step ahead.

“The third focus, which is the most important, is to empower the engagement session with the Esszone community as the tasks at Esscom goes beyond security operations and is related to gaining the trust and support of the Esszone community,” he added.
