Esther Rantzen reunites Nicholas Winton with dozens of children he saved in WWII in resurfaced clip

This is the incredible moment Dame Esther Rantzen reunites an un-expecting Sir Nicholas Winton with dozens of the 669 Jewish children he saved from the Holocaust.

The momentous moment aired during the famous 1988 broadcast of the BBC show That’s Life! which Dame Esther hosted. It has now resurfaced following Dame Esther’s death on Wednesday (30 September) at the age of 86.

Sir Nicholas organized trains to evacuate children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia to Britain in 1938 and 1939.

He secured foster families for the children, but kept his work a secret for nearly 50 years.

His actions only came to light when his wife found a forgotten scrapbook in their attic containing the children's names and photos.

In February 1988, Sir Nicholas sat in the studio audience of That's Life!, believing he was just a member of the public. Dame Esther Rantzen then pulled out his scrapbook, revealing what he had done, before asking if anyone in the audience owed their life to him.

This prompted dozens of adults seated all around him to stand up and applaud him.
