KUALA LUMPUR — Electric Train Service (ETS) will soon connect Johor Bahru to the rest of the west coast rail network, with operations set to begin by mid-December, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced.
The expansion, known as ETS3, marks the final phase of the intercity rail service’s southern extension and is expected to boost public transport connectivity and tourism ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.
“We are still looking for a suitable launch date because some final preparations need to be completed, but the ETS service to Johor Bahru will start no later than mid-December,” Loke told reporters.
He said the new route would support growing travel demand under the Visit Johor 2026 campaign, providing an alternative transport option that links secondary towns to the state capital.
“This is an additional mode of transport in Johor, and I am confident it can also help the tourism sector in Johor, especially in secondary and small towns like Segamat, Labis, Kluang, and Kulai,” he added.
Loke said technical work on the new route is being finalised, with ticket prices to be announced soon.
The extended ETS3 line, which previously ended in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, will now continue south through Segamat, Kluang, and Kulai, before terminating at Johor Bahru Sentral Station — completing the electric train link along the Peninsular Malaysia west coast corridor. — November 2, 2025
