The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is to receive a record sum of €3 billion euros ($3.4 billion) from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
An agreement on an initial loan tranche of €1 billion euros was signed in Brussels by the EU development bank and Airbus on Monday.
The funds are intended to help the company further expand its technological leadership in civil and military aviation, a press release said.
The funding aims to strengthen Europe's technological sovereignty and industrial excellence in manufacturing, it added.
The new loan is the EIB's largest corporate financing deal to date. President Nadia Calviño said the flagship project had been approved within around six months.
This "shows that Europe can move with speed and at scale to support its champions and reinforce its position in the emerging geopolitical landscape," she said.
The EIB stated that the amount reflects the high investment needs of Europe's leading aerospace group, which aims to remain competitive on the global stage.
The financing is intended to support Airbus, the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, with investments in cutting-edge technology planned up to 2030.
