The European Union is stepping up humanitarian aid for Venezuela to help survivors deal with the aftermath of two devastating earthquakes that shook the country last week.
The EU is providing €5 million ($5.7 million) in emergency funding to help provide shelters and healthcare in the most affected regions, according to a press release published on Monday.
In addition, the EU will start early this week to fly around 50 tonnes of shelter material, water and sanitation equipment, as well as education supplies stored in Europe to Venezuela.
"This additional funding and supplies will provide much-needed help to families who lost their homes, patients in need of medical assistance or children whose schools have been damaged," said EU Crisis Commissioner Hadja Lahbib.
Over the last days, rescue teams and medical staff from several EU countries have arrived in Venezuela.
