Euromillions winner dies in suspected hit-and-run

  • Anthony Canty, a 39-year-old EuroMillions winner, has died after being knocked off his bicycle in a collision in Tiptree, Essex, on 21 May.
  • Mr Canty, a father-of-two, was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries four days later.
  • In 2020, he won £1m in the lottery shortly after performing CPR on a police officer who had collapsed on a bus, an act that helped save the officer's life.
  • An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and other offences, and remains under investigation by Essex Police.
  • Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage of a black Ford KA car in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
