Eurovision welcome gigantic outsider country to competition

  • Canada is set to join the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, marking a significant expansion for the European music competition.
  • The North American nation's participation was officially confirmed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) after CBC/Radio-Canada became a full member.
  • EBU director Martin Green expressed delight, highlighting Canada's existing connection to the contest through artists like Celine Dion, who won for Switzerland in 1988.
  • Marie-Philippe Bouchard, CBC/Radio-Canada president and chief executive, said: “Our participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, starting next year in Bulgaria, will allow Canadian talent to be showcased on one of the most storied music stages in the world.”
