The PAS Information Chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, declared the party’s readiness to advocate for any Malaysian whose constitutional rights are infringed, regardless of their political affiliations, including rivals like DAP and UMNO leaders. Speaking outside the Palace of Justice on Monday 6th January, he emphasized that PAS upholds the principle of justice for all Malaysians.

“We are all Malaysians, and PAS is a party for Malaysia. If anyone’s rights under the Constitution are violated, be it individuals like Lim Guan Eng or Lim Kit Siang, we will stand up for them. This includes Najib, who is a former Prime Minister,” said Ahmad Fadhli, who also serves as the Pasir Mas MP.

His remarks came amid a massive rally held to support Datuk Seri Najib Razak, as the former Prime Minister appealed against the dismissal of his request to serve the remainder of his reduced six-year prison sentence under house arrest.

Ahmad Fadhli asserted that PAS views the addendum, allegedly granting Najib house arrest, as evidence of his rights being recognized. The gathering, organized by PAS and Islamist groups like Ummah and Perkasa, was meant to demonstrate solidarity with Najib after latter's party canceled a planned rally following warnings from Istana Negara and police authorities.

Najib’s legal troubles stem from his conviction in July 2020 on seven charges, including abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering involving RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1MDB. Initially sentenced to 12 years in Kajang Prison and fined RM210 million, his term was later reduced to six years and a RM50 million fine.

Security around the Palace of Justice was heightened as early as dawn, with roadblocks at key points like Jalan Sentosa and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. These measures aimed to prevent the entry of prohibited items, such as weapons and provocative banners. Police patrols were visible throughout the area, with officers stationed strategically to manage the crowd and ensure order.

The rally highlights PAS's position as a defender of constitutional rights and adds another layer to Najib’s high-profile legal saga. Ahmad Fadhli’s statement underscores PAS’s commitment to justice, extending even to political adversaries, in a move aimed at showcasing the party’s broader vision of unity and fairness.
