Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday alleged that the BJP government was playing with the lives of people of the state, and the Punjab and Haryana High Court had held up a mirror to the government, expressing concern over the dilapidated state of health services.
He said the court pointed out that there was a severe shortage of doctors in the state. “Hundreds of posts for Medical Officers and specialist doctors have remained vacant for years, yet the government shows no interest in filling them. Even basic amenities are unavailable in district hospitals. The court was compelled to mandate that every district hospital must be equipped with at least one CT scan machine, one MRI machine, and an ICU facility,” he said.
He claimed that at Dadri, an elderly man was denied treatment at a government hospital because he did not possess an Aadhaar card, and later, died on the hospital floor.
“The government has perpetuated a charade of free treatment under the guise of the Ayushman Scheme, as it fails to make timely payments, amounting to hundreds of crores to hospitals. Consequently, hospitals refuse to provide treatment, thereby directly endangering the lives of patients,” he said.
