Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite was left frustrated after their 2-1 defeat at Tottenham.

Richarlison and Heung-min Son scored for Spurs, with Andre Gomes netting for the Blues.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a goal ruled out by VAR after Gomes was ruled to have fouled Spurs defender Emerson Royal.

Branthwaite said: It was never a foul in my eyes. They put it on the big screen, and I think everyone sees. Once [the referee] goes over to the monitor, he's going to give it.

It's never a foul and it just kills the game. It should be a clear goal, for me. He hasn't won the ball, but he hasn't touched the man, and he just falls over. It's one of those things and we can't do anything about it now."

He also said: I think after the first 15 minutes when we were sloppy, we didn't react to things, and we were off the pace, we dominated the game after that.

Two goals down and we flipped the switch, but in the Premier League, you can't do that. You can't go two goals down and expect to get back in the game, but as you saw, we created the chances we needed to score the goals. It just wasn't meant to be today."
