Everton defender James Tarkowski was left frustrated after a goal was denied in defeat at home to Fulham.

Michael Keane slotted him after Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno had dropped the ball, but Tarkowski was judged to have fouled the German.

I think the referee was the only person in the stadium who didn't think it was a goal," said Tarkowski. Their goalie didn't think it was a foul, all their team didn't think it was a foul, and it was only the referee who thought it was.

I'm allowed to be there (challenging the goalkeeper). He comes for the ball and drops it. I didn't hit it out of his hands or anything he just dropped it. I don't see how it can be given as a foul."

On the defeat, the skipper continued: Yes, it is frustrating.

I understand the frustrations from the crowd and from ourselves, but I'm also quite pleased with the performance.

We made a lot of chances probably the most since I've been here, to be honest, and really good chances. We kept them to minimal chances themselves, besides the goal, so lots and lots of positives. It's early in the season and we can be pleased with how we played, besides putting the ball in the back of the net.

We feel fit and we've worked really hard. It's been a tough pre-season, so we're physically and mentally ready to go. It's a disappointing result, but we can be pleased with a lot of the work we did."
