Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has passed away at the age of 78.

The former head of the Toffees had been on the Goodison Park club's board since 1989.

While he had been chairman since 2004, Kenwright's day to day role had lessened over the years.

Kenwright, also an acclaimed West End theater and film producer, was given a CBE in 2001.

"The club has lost a chairman, a leader, a friend, and an inspiration," Everton stated.

"Bill was driven by his passions and devoted his life to them; his deep love of theater, film, music and his beloved Everton, and the families they created," a family statement read.

"He impacted the lives of thousands, whether that be through the launching of careers or his unending loyalty, generosity and unfaltering friendship and support."
