Everton had requested that Youssef Chermiti not play for Portugal Under-20s in September.
The Independent states that the Toffees has put Chermiti on an intensive strength and conditioning plan.
They wanted to ensure he was ready to physically compete in the Premier League after signing from Sporting CP.
