Your favourite homicidal vigilante, Dexter is back for a second franchise sequel, Dexter: Resurrection!

Nearly a decade after the original series ended, Showtime announced a revival sequel in October 2020, with Michael C Hall reprising his iconic role. In 2021, two more projects were planned when Dexter: New Blood aired and garnered a positive reception. These include Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel series released in December 2024 and Dexter: Resurrection, which began filming in January 2025 under Marcos Siega’s direction.

Additionally, with the merger between Paramount+ and Showtime, more sequels and spin-offs of the popular crime drama are expected to be churned out by Clyde Phillips, the showrunner and executive producer of Dexter seasons 1-4 (2006-2009) and also Resurrection.

So, let us take a look at everything we know about Dexter: Resurrection, including its cast, potential plot, expected release date and more.

All about Dexter: Resurrection: Cast details and more

What could be the potential plot for Dexter: Resurrection?

While there are no details on the official plot, going by the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con announcement, the show is expected to pick up right after the finale of Dexter: New Blood (2021-2022) in which Dexter (spoiler alert!) supposedly dies and his son Harrison Morgan (played by Jack Alcott) continues the legacy and begins killing in his father’s stead.

Now with this finale, many storylines could be developed for the plot. However, as the name suggests, Dexter might come back with the revelation that he faked his death (again) or survived a gunshot by somehow. This seems likely since Michael C Hall is reprising his role in the suspenseful show.

The plot could also focus on Harrison as the main character who might ‘resurrect’ the Dexter persona to carry on the killings while working with or against his back-from-the-dead father.

But whatever it may be, we are very excited for the show to air!

A big star is joining the cast along with Michael C Hall

As aforementioned, Michael C Hall will be returning to reprise his role of Dexter. Additionally, Jack Alcott will be becoming a series regular along with David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista and James Remar as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s father.

Furthermore, it was confirmed by Variety recently that Uma Thurman has also joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection. Thurman is known for some of the most iconic roles in pop culture including Poison Ivy opposite George Clooney’s Batman in Batman & Robin (1997), Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction (1994) and The Bride in Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2 (2003 and 2004), will be joining the cast as a series regular.

According to Variety, she will play the recurring role of former Special Ops officer Charley. She is described as “the Head of Security for mysterious billionaire Leon Prater… Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as the resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman for Prater.”

We cannot wait to watch her in the show! This brings us to…

Do we have a release date for Dexter: Resurrection?

While there is no official release date for the show, it is expected to air in June 2025, as stated by Phillips.

Is there a trailer for the show yet?

Since filming has only recently begun, there is no official trailer for Dexter: Resurrection yet. However, a teaser for the series was released in December 2024. You can watch it below:
