The beloved cooperative arcade game Overcooked, known for its chaotic kitchen, frantic dish servings, and hilarious accidents, is making its way to Netflix. Recent reports suggest that A24, the popular Hollywood production company, is partnering with the streaming platform to develop a reality cooking competition series based on the indie hit.
Overcooked is yet another entry in the long list of games that are being adapted to films and TV series. We already have Call of Duty, The Legend of Zelda, and God of War adaptations to look forward to, but a Netflix Overcooked! reality TV series will really be something unique.
Netflix’s ‘Overcooked’ reality TV series will be something else
The Overcooked franchise is all about clumsy chefs doing their best to serve a large number of customers in a limited time. Some of them are on lettuce duty, while others are in charge of doing the dishes, and the rest serve. Their perfection is glorious to behold while it lasts, and when things go wrong, it all turns into a chain of hilarious events. People slipping around, fires spreading, and food spilling around the kitchen make Overcooked what it is.
It is unimaginable how they will translate this chaos into a live-action reality show, but if the producers missed out on this aspect, it would end up being a generic cooking competition, and we have plenty of those already.
Netflix’s ‘Overcooked’ Reality TV series release
As of yet, A24 and Netflix have not announced any release window for this new series. Given the nature of the show and its inspiration, we have to imagine it will take a while for them to get it right and then film.
A24 is working on multiple adaptations
From the Death Stranding movie, worked on by filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, to Alex Garland’s Elden Ring adaptation, and now the Overcooked! TV series, A24 is heading towards an interesting future.
While other big studios have massive film and TV series adaptations in the works, no one is doing as many as A24. The best part is that all of them seem promising, with incredibly talented filmmakers attached to writing and directing them.
The real winners in all these events are the gamers — they have a lot to look forward to in the next few years. The success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and A Minecraft Movie has really changed things. We hope that whatever comes next is equally fun to watch for both hyped fans and curious newcomers.
