KUALA LUMPUR – Fresh from her appointment as PKR vice-president, Nurul Izzah Anwar has exhorted her party brethren to strive towards “evidence-based and effective” policies for the betterment of the country amid the economic hardships.
The Permatang Pauh MP took to Facebook to emphasise on the importance of such measures and the political change needed to shape the policies to serve the nation.

“With the economy in jeopardy and general elections fast approaching, it is vital we all do our part to work towards a better Malaysia through existing avenues and in our respective capacities”, she said in thanking the PKR leadership for placing their trust in her.
“It is a great responsibility that must be taken seriously – one which requires collaboration both within and beyond party ranks.”
However, Nurul Izzah maintained that party posts are not a prerequisite for bringing about positive changes.
She said that the people of Permatang Pauh, and also those in her previous parliamentary constituency of Lembah Pantai, as well as others across the country had taught her to continue the “good work” and strive for a positive impact on families and affected households.
Yesterday evening, Nurul Izzah marked her comeback to the PKR leadership fold following the first meeting of the party’s newly elected central leadership council.
Nurul Izzah had stepped down as an elected vice-president in December 2018.
During the meeting, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail retained his post, while Putatan MP Awang Suhaini Sahari was also named vice-president to represent Sabah and Sarawak.
In a surprise appointment, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced K. Saraswathy, a lawyer by profession who has been part of the party’s election committee, as a vice-president as well.
Meanwhile, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil and Selayang MP William Leong were appointed party information chief and treasurer respectively.
PKR’s Titiwangsa branch chief Zahir Hassan has been appointed as the party’s chief organising secretary.
Five appointments into the PKR central leadership council include former Kapar MP G. Manivannan, Tawau MP Christina Liew, Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail, Sarawak PKR information chief Abun Sui Anyit, and Johor PKR Youth chief R. Yuneswaran.
PKR has a total of seven vice-presidents in its line-up, four of whom are elected, while the remaining three are appointed. – The Vibes, July 21, 2022
