I understand from Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, Founding Convener Sejahtera Leadership Initiative (SLI), that the recent KL Summit on “ESG Ready Malaysia From Reporting to Real-World Impact” organized by Malaysia Association for Nature (MAPAN), resolved the United Nations 17 Sustainable Goals (SDGs) holistically is the gap must be urgently filled to ensure that governance is not consumed by “greed,” intentionally or otherwise! “There is no more room for making rhetoric and outlandish long-term promises, especially in terms of 5Ps (planet, people, prosperity, peace and partnership), in transforming the Triple Bottom Line to a Quintuple one where the overall metrics targets redefine the ‘new’ attainable ESG (2.0) in a comprehensive way.”
Prof Tan Sri Dzul, emphasized that “In Malaysia, this is encapsulated in Sejahtera - a balanced and harmonious way of life - connecting humans with nature, with the creator, with fellow humans, and with him/her self. Thus, extending the meaning and need for governance beyond the conventional macrocosmic imperatives to that of microcosmic equivalent of human governance. This is regarded as the singular meeting point where ESG & UN's SDGs (5Ps) coalesced in order to bring the need of humanity to the fore as the ultimate end, collectively. Their ultimate goals are aligned recognizing, at once, serving human society's long-term needs transcend that of the company, organizations and institutions no matter where, reoriented towards the benefit of all stakeholders.”
I strongly support SLI to collaborate with MAPAN in realizing ESG 2.0 by shifting the focus from rigid, check-box regulatory compliance (Phase 1.0) into a deeply humanized, balanced approach to sustainability. SLI agreed that Phase 2.0 (2027-2030) must shift into rigorous global compliance, net-zero carbon accounting, and active supply-chain execution. Traditional corporate compliance isolates governance data siloes. SLI believes by utilizing Tan Sri Dzul's SPICES framework, which demand across 7 domains: Spiritual, Cultural, Physical, Intellectual, Societal, Economic & Ecological.
