A former Cabinet minister was arrested by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) in Petaling Jaya yesterday (Oct 15) for allegedly committing ‘khalwat’ (close proximity) with a woman.
JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad confirmed the arrest in a statement, saying the public figure was arrested alongside the woman, who’s believed to be the founder of an NGO.

He added the alleged offense took place at about 6pm in the Petaling district, leading to the former minister being nabbed before he and the woman were brought to the JAIS headquarters in Shah Alam for documentation.
Jail time & fine
Shahzihan said the duo are being probed under Section 29 of the Syariah Criminal Enactment (Selangor) 1995, where they face a fine of up to RM3,000, two years in jail, or both if convicted.
JAIS has since urged Muslims not to resort to humiliating any party by turning the incident into a topic of debate, slander, and speculation.
