Ex-Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich identified the Regent's Park location as the ideal place for the club's training ground.
Abramovich, who bought the Blues in 2003 and had to sell the club a year ago due to UK sanctions on Russian billionaires, felt that Regents Park was a great spot for their training facilities.
However, Ken Bates, who sold the club to Abramovich in 2003, told him it was impossible due to the royal ownership of the park.
In an interview with The Blue Print podcast, he stated: He saw the park and said: 'That looks like a good park. Let's buy that for the training ground'.
But he got told 'I don't think you will get that. That's Regent's Park and it's owned by the Queen'."
