Former Chelsea technical chief Petr Cech admits he drove the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager.

Cech concedes he wanted Lampard to be manager long-term.

He told Sky Sports: "We had coaches that we had hoped to have for a long time. When Frank Lampard came back, we hoped that that was the moment when we would have had a manager for a long time..."

Cech continued: "When we were deciding who would be the manager after (Maurizio) Sarri's departure, I was the one who pushed so hard for Frank to become manager. He had done well at Derby County. He was my favourite choice... I was hoping he would go to best possible way.

"We would have liked to have had Frank longer, but you have the board and the big boss (Roman Abramovich): when he wants to make a decision you have to expect it."
