THE former Executive Director for Project Management at Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Mohamad Hamim @ Mohamed Kamaruddin, has pleaded not guilty to allegedly receiving a RM50,000 bribe in connection with his official duties.
The 54-year-old father of two appeared before Judge Azura Alwi at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, where the charge was read.
According to the charge sheet, Mohamad Hamim is accused of accepting the sum from Lau Chuan Wei near Jalan Changkat Tunku on 10 January this year, knowing that Lau had dealings related to his official role at DBKL.
“The former Executive Director (Project Management) of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was brought before the Sessions Court here today on a charge of receiving RM50,000 from an individual. The accused, Mohamad Hamim @ Mohamed Kamaruddin, was alleged to have received the money in his capacity as a public servant and in connection with matters related to his official duties at DBKL,” the charge stated.
The charges were framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Mohd Yasri Yahya told the court that bail of RM25,000 was being offered, with additional conditions that the accused surrender his passport and refrain from interfering with prosecution witnesses. Defence counsel Mohd Alif Anuar requested a lower bail, citing his client’s responsibility to support his family, including his father and two children.
Judge Azura set bail at RM15,000 with one surety and fixed 12 January for the next case mention. She did not require the surrender of the accused’s passport but directed him to file a written report with the court whenever he intends to travel abroad. - November 7, 2025
