A woman who formerly campaigned during the 15th General Election (GE) was caught on CCTV shoving an ex-Selangor hockey player into a drain in Taman OUG last Friday (Sept 18).
As a result of the incident, the 79-year-old victim suffered injuries to the back of her head, left hand and back, reported NST.
In a statement by Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook, he said the 10.30am incident took place in front of a row of shops.

Based on initial investigations, the victim had entered a tailor shop owned by her friend, where she told the latter that she was being followed by the suspect.
When the victim left the shop a few minutes later, the suspect, who was waiting outside, walked up to her and pushed her, causing her to lose her balance and fall into a drain.
“The victim’s friend lodged a police report at 12.37pm on the same day, before a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Brickfields district police headquarters raided a house and detained the suspect,” said Hoo.

Denied act
During questioning, the suspect tried to wash her hands off the incident but failed to give a reasonable explanation for her actions. Police also discovered that she didn’t know the victim personally.
She was subsequently remanded for one day at the Brickfields police headquarters’ lockup and ordered to undergo psychiatric examination and treatment to assist investigations by a magistrate.
As for the victim, she was taken by her friend to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre and spent four days in the emergency department before being discharged on Monday (Sept 21).
The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

Who is the suspect?
According to China Press, the suspect is Lian Choy Ling, who contested for the Seputeh constitutional seat in 2022 against DAP heavyweight Teresa Kok and four others.
She drew much attention for her choice of name to be placed on the ballot paper, where she contested under the alias ‘Choy San Yeh’ (God on Fortune).

Lian’s election manifesto was also panned by her opponents, with one of them saying it appeared more like a “hate essay” about the DAP-led state government.
Not surprisingly, she was crushed in the polls by garnering only 865 votes and lost her deposit as a result.
