Former Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah recently took to social media to share a nostalgic piece of information: Malaysia’s government hospitals have been charging a consultation fee of just RM1 since 1979.

This policy has been consistently maintained for the past 45 years.

In his post on social media platform, Dr. Noor Hisham shared an old receipt from 1979 as evidence of this longstanding fee.

The receipt clearly shows the RM1 charge for a medical examination at a government hospital in Terengganu.

“According to this 1979 receipt, the RM1 consultation fee at Malaysian government hospitals has remained unchanged to this day,” he stated in his post.

The revelation sparked reactions from netizens, with many expressing their surprise and appreciation for the government’s consistent healthcare policy.
