Former Manchester United defender Max Taylor has won a new deal with Rochdale.

The contract now sees the defender contracted until the summer of 2024. Taylor, 22, started at United and overcame cancer during his time at Old Trafford, but was released without making a senior appearance.

Taylor joined the club last summer, making 29 appearances and scoring three goals in his first season at Dale.

Speaking on his extension, Taylor said: “I'm very happy to finally have it done.

“I felt like I got a good number of games last season and I want to crack on this season now.

“We've discussed the goals of the team and what we want to achieve this season. We are all working towards that same goal together."

Manager Robbie Stockdale also told Rochdale's website: “Max is a young central defender that we've got really big hopes for.

“He has got lots of potential, in terms of ability, to kick on and be a real mainstay in the team.

“He's found it tough this pre-season, going into it injured off the back of last season, so he's still getting to grips with that.

“Max will be, I'm sure, a very important player for this club moving forward in the future."
