The Una District Sainik Welfare Department on Wednesday called upon all retired personnel of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) to voluntarily register at its office.
This follows the decision of the Union Government to formally grant ex-servicemen status to MNS officers with effect from February 9. The invitation was given after an amendment to the Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Central Civil Services and Posts) Rules, 1979, officially recognising MNS officers as veterans.
Deputy Director of the Una District Sainik Welfare Office Lt Col SK Kalia (retd), in a press note issued in Una, said that since the MNS officers had received the ex-servicemen status this year, the department did not have any record pertaining to them.
He called upon all retired MNS personnel to immediately visit his office with relevant records and get identity cards certifying their status as ex-servicemen to become eligible beneficiaries of schemes meant for the veterans of the armed forces, their family members and dependents.
