Former Newcastle midfielder John Barnes isn't getting carried away with Anthony Gordon.
Big things are tipped for the winger, though Barnes was unimpressed by him in their Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
"Newcastle didn't start well didn't they?" Barnes told mybettingsites.co.uk. "They've done well in the last four-five games but they have been quite inconsistent.
"Anthony Gordon needs to keep working hard. He went to Newcastle with a big reputation.
"That's not to say he's going to be playing for them every week either because they've got so many good players. He's just got to keep his head down, work hard, try and learn and improve and be consistent.
"Being consistent is what Newcastle also have to do, without getting carried away by good performances and all of a sudden they don't play well next week."
"So I'm not judging Newcastle or Anthony Gordon based on what they've done in the last one or two games. Because there are games when he's played, he's not done particularly well and I'm not judging him on those either."
"So I'm not getting carried away with what Anthony Gordon or Newcastle have done. They've got to grow slowly."
