Was there more to the recent “defamatory” remarks made against Hannah Yeoh…?

In a hard-hitting Facebook video former PAS stalwart Mahfuz Omar has slammed controversial Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria for falsely claiming in a recent speech that youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh was the daughter of wealthy YTL owner Yeoh Tiong Lay.

Mahfuz, the former PAS Pokok Sena MP, also lashed out at the Islamist party and its leaders for often misleading the public by insinuating that the party was the “sole defender” of Islam in this country!

Referencing the previous case of the party’s Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura who had made a wild allegation that several top DAP leaders had family ties with communist leader Chin Peng, Mahfuz said that PAS leaders don't seem to bother to check the veracity of some of their outrageous claims!

Are they “normalising” falsehood and slander?

He further alleged that their actions were bringing shame to fellow Muslims and it was as if they could slander as they wished and that it was not a “sin”; moreover, according to him, what is shocking is that they also seemed to stubbornly defend their slanderous statements.

Mahfuz also highlighted how Razman had previously uttered slanderous statements against PM Anwar Ibrahim; however, he was lucky to get away scot free after offering his apology!

He then went on to stress that such persistent irresponsible statements by certain PAS leaders can tarnish the image of Islam as it did not seem to reflect what was taught by their religion.

Why aren't our religious bodies taking any action on all the falsehoods spewed…?

He further expressed his disappointment that muftis and even religious authorities appeared not willing to reprimand certain PAS leaders including its top leader Abdul Hadi Awang when they stepped out of line with their statements.

According to him, religious authorities must make a stand and check the slanders spewed by certain PAS leaders who may also be religious figures in their community.

Not mincing words, Mahfuz added it's as though some were worried that their afterlife will be affected if they don't subscribe to the doctrines propagated by some of the Islamist party leaders!

Another potentially seditious remark…?!

In closing, Mahfuz pointed out that the most disturbing aspect of Razman’s recent speech was when he said that if PAS failed to win the next election, Perak could end up being like another southern Thailand or India!

According to him, it seemed to imply that the current Perak state administration under its menteri besar Saarani Mohamad did not defend Islam, which itself can be deemed a slanderous statement; as such, he has called on the police to take action against the PAS commissioner for the incendiary remarks.

On a lighter note, Mahfuz said that he found it somewhat mind-boggling that Razman had actually made a police report for alleged slander committed against him for his own earlier slanderous remarks!

Then, surprisingly, last Monday (Jan 27), it was reported that Razman had apologised to Yeoh and claimed that it was an unintentional “slip of the tongue!"; however, he went on to slam the news report alleging that it seemed to deliberately highlight his mistake without touching on other parts of the speech!

A “slip of the tongue” that lasted almost a minute…?!!

Nevertheless, Yeoh, who is also the DAP Segambut MP, criticised the Perak PAS Commissioner and told him to wait for her lawyer's letter, before adding that defamation should never be normalised, especially among religious individuals.

Interestingly, she also pointed out that Razman’s speech, which accused her of various things, had actually lasted around a minute and not 10 seconds as was claimed by the PAS leader, which is bound to prompt some to ask – was that yet another “falsehood”…?
