KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of failing to comply with an asset declaration notice issued by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The Bera MP was charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly failing to declare a massive multi-currency fortune alongside physical precious metals.
According to the charge sheet, the undisclosed assets include:
Cash Fortunes: RM14.7 million, S$6 million, US$1.46 million, 3 million Swiss francs, 12.2 million euros, 363 million Japanese yen, £50,250, NZ$44,600, 34.8 million UAE dirhams, and A$352,850.
Precious Metals: Five gold bars, one silver bar, and one gold coin.
The alleged offence took place at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Feb 7 last year.
If convicted, Ismail Sabri faces a maximum jail term of five years, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both.
