Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has made it clear he will criticise officials when they make mistakes.

Dean was speaking about the controversial lack of a penalty call for Wolves against Manchester United.

When Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana clattered into a Wolves player in the penalty box, VAR declined to give a spot kick.

Dean, who served as a VAR advisor last season, spent two decades as an English top flight referee.

I've had a chat with a few of the referees and made it clear that if they make a bad decision, I won't be sitting on the fence or defending the indefensible and they were OK with that," Dean told the PA news agency.

I want to be able to do the job properly and give proper insight. Equally, I'll be happy to highlight good decisions as it will be good to give refs some credit."
