As many as 137 retired soldiers from the Indian Armed Forces on Friday joined the Himachal Police after the passing out parade held at the First India Reserve Battalion (IRB), Bangarh, in Una district. Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari was the chief guest at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said that the past experience of the armed forces would help the newly recruited police constables perform better in their new role. He emphasised that discipline, honesty and service to society should be the top priorities of police personnel, and expressed hope that the newly inducted personnel would play an active role in maintaining law and order in the state.
The DGP also honoured new recruits who excelled in various disciplines during the training period at the battalion. Commandant of the battalion, Akriti Sharma, spoke about the training curriculum and gave a brief overview of the deployment of personnel for maintaining law and order in different parts of the state.
Earlier, the DGP launched a mobile application, ‘ReachSafeUna’, designed by Una SP Sachin Hiremath with technical inputs from software professionals. The DGP said the application informs travellers about accident-prone areas and black spots so that drivers can exercise caution at these locations. It also provides real-time navigation and awareness to drivers.
In the event of an accident, the application enables victims or other road users to send alert messages through their mobile phones, which are immediately received by the police control room and concerned police stations. The DGP said he has directed the Una SP to explore extending the scope of the mobile application across the entire state.
