
KUALA LUMPUR – National badminton legends Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Datuk Seri Jalani Sidek, and Datuk Cheah Soon Kit have been listed among a 14-member technical advisory panel of Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM).
In a statement, ABM announced today the panel is established to provide strategic guidance to the academy’s board of trustees and management, among others.
“The technical advisory panel, serving on a pro-bono basis, will provide additional input, advice, and strategic guidance to ABM’s board of trustees and management,” read the statement.
“It aims to enhance player performances for the long-term strategic goal of podium performances at the Olympic Games, multi-sport events, and BWF World Tour tournaments.
“They will review players’ and coaches’ performances as well as propose changes in policies, training programmes and tournament participation, where necessary, in the form of recommendation to the board of trustees.”
Other former national players who have accepted the invitation to be part of the panel are former world No. 1 players – men’s doubles pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, men’s doubles player Datuk Cheah Soon Kit, and men’s singles shuttler Roslin Hashim.
Former world No. 2 men’s singles shuttler Ong Ewe Hock also agreed to join the panel.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria will chair the advisory panel and be joined by National Sports Council director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Ahmad Faedzal Md Ramli, and Kedah Badminton Association president Datuk Teoh Teng Chor.
Others include BAM development committee chairman Datuk Ng Chin Chai, BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh, and former NSI chief executive Datuk Dr. Ramlan Abd Aziz.
ABM also noted that the panel will meet quarterly, which is expected to take place at the end of this month. – The Vibes, February 3, 2023
