Watch out for an Exodus from Singapore if Pakatan Harapan Won With Anwar as Modern Day Moses Parting the Straits of Johor. #GE15

If Moses did free Jews from the clutches of the Pharaoh by parting the Red Sea leading them to the promised land, Anwar may yet be a modern-day prophet that will part the Straits of Johor for an exodus of workers out of Singapore.

If Nga Kor Ming Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) was right we should be prepared for an exodus from Singapore.

He claimed there will be a mass exit of Singaporeans flocking to Malaysia to find work if Pakatan Harapan (PH) won in the November elections because PH would be able to boost the nation’s economy once they are in power.

Currently, the country’s future is hanging in the balance and he predicted the ringgit would fall below 3.5 against the Singapore dollar if the BN-UMNO coalition were to continue governing the country.

Consequently, more Johoreans will be forced to find work in Singapore and painfully suffer the hazards of their daily commute.

Nga criticised BN for its “rotten governance” and called upon Malaysians to vote them out giving Anwar one last chance to become prime minister after waiting for 24 years.

Nga also said Anwar has to achieve his goal of becoming the "Nelson Mandela of Malaysia."

Nga stressed that for PH to govern, it has to win 15 parliamentary seats in Johor.

IF, just IF DAP-Harapan won.

Nga is on a campaign trail trying to get voters to support DAP-PH in Johor. So his latest appeal is to commuters who hold jobs across the Causeway. It's a story politicians tell with a big "IF" summarised below.

  1. If PH won the economy would be better. Johorians would stay home than commute to work in Singapore.
  2. If PH won the economy would be so good that large numbers of Singaporeans would want to work in Malaysia.
  3. If PH won exchange rate would be better than 3.5 to SGD$1.
  4. If PH won governance would be better than "rotten" BN.
  5. If BN won Anwar could realise his dream of being a Malaysian "Mandela".

Our comments:

  1. Most Johorians will not stay home. The pull factor is stronger. A higher salary is the most critical. Malaysia will be unable to match the rate of RM10,000 a month for a cleaner even if our ringgit appreciates with PH in power. It is an economic situation which is outside the control of any government in power. PH cannot possibly halt the demand from the Singapore labour market. It's just another election promise like removing tolls nationwide.
  2. Commuting would be better once a train service is introduced between Singapore and Johor Baru. Hazards would be lessened encouraging Johorians to continue with their job commuting between the two cities.
  3. We can forget about this Exodus from Singapore. They are not persecuted like the Jews during the time of Moses. So, do not believe Singaporeans would come in droves to work here. They would live in Malaysia but not work here. Their income at home is higher. Quality of life is probably a selling point. An Exodus of workers out of Singapore is just an exaggeration.
  4. Any government would be better than BN but we gave PH a chance in 2018 it ended in the worst disaster ever in the country's history!
  5. Lastly, why are we asked to help Anwar the PM in waiting for 24 years realise his dreams this one last chance? Why must it be about Anwar?

Is it because he wants to be equated with Mandela?

He does not deserve to be equated with Mandela. Nelson Mandela is a world hero who went to jail for justice and equality for his people in a fight against an apartheid regime. Anwar is not even close.

Anwar may be a little better than Najib whose followers also tried to equate him with Mandela.

Again Najib like Anwar does not have a reason to be placed on the same pedestal as Nelson Mandela who sacrificed his life in a struggle for the people of South Africa.

He was not a kleptocrat like UMNO's homegrown heroes. So, stop comparing our politicians to world legends.

The above shows that politicians exaggerate. Nga is no exception.

Take Nga's advice with a big grain of salt.

Happy voting.
