PUTRAJAYA: A Cabinet minister is urging the Attorney-General (AG) to explain the prolonged delay in taking action over the fatal shooting of G. Logeswaran, M. Puspanathan, and M. Puvaneswaran in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, last year.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said it has been eight months since the incident occurred on Nov 24, 2025, yet no definitive legal action or arrests have taken place.
“This delay is highly questionable given that the police themselves reclassified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code in December last year,” said Gobind in a statement this evening.
“The police do not reclassify cases, especially to serious capital offences such as homicide, unless there is a solid evidential basis to do so.
“The fact that the enforcement agency itself determined that the threshold for a murder investigation was met indicates that there is evidence requiring urgent court action,” he added.
Logeswaran, Puspanathan, and Puvaneswaran were shot dead after one of them allegedly attacked police officers with a parang (machete) during a police operation at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal on 24 November.
However, an audio recording later contradicted the police’s account of the incident, and in December, the Attorney-General’s Chambers directed that the case be reclassified as murder.
Gobind, who is also the DAP’s national chairman, highlighted that the audio recording and post-mortem reports were produced to assist the investigation.
“Any delay in prosecution can impact the quality of evidence. As time passes, witness recollections fade, physical evidence can degrade, and procedural gaps emerge,” he said.
“These delays create unnecessary vulnerabilities that are highly detrimental to the case. The AG, as the custodian of justice, is duty-bound to act swiftly and decisively where the evidence points to a criminal offence.
“Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. I call upon the AG to take immediate action in this matter without any further delay.”
He added that the victims’ families have waited eight months for justice, and public confidence in the criminal justice system was at stake.
“I view this matter with the utmost seriousness, and I will personally raise this issue at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow to ensure that accountability and the rule of law are upheld,” he added.
In April, Gobind had called on the AG to explain the status of the case.
Earlier today, lawyers representing the families of Logeswaran, 29, Puspanathan, 21, and Puvaneswaran, 24, demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible, maintaining that the trio were executed.
Lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan, one of three legal representatives acting for the families, said the post-mortem reports prepared by Melaka Hospital contradicted the official account of the fatal police shooting. The reports also showed that the three men had been shot at close range.
The families demanded:
- The immediate arrest of, and murder charges against, all police personnel allegedly involved in what they described as the “execution-style” killing of the three victims.
- Criminal and disciplinary action against all senior police officers, including the Melaka police chief and anyone else alleged to have participated in concealing the circumstances surrounding the deaths since November 2025.
- An explanation from the prime minister, the Federal government, Home Ministry, Inspector-General of Police, and AG for the delay in taking action following the release of an audio recording in December 2025.
The lawyers also warned that if no immediate action was taken, they would publicly identify the police personnel allegedly involved and leave it to the authorities to decide on the next course of action.
