Extent of Spain high-speed train crash devastation shown in aerial footage

Aerial footage shows the aftermath of a deadly high-speed train collision in Toledo, Spain, on Wednesday, 28 October.

A government spokesperson for the Castilla-La Mancha region said the two trains crashed just after 9am, causing two carriages to derail.

Footage released by the Guardia Civil, one of Spain's law enforcement agencies, showed a derailed train with at least one carriage on an elevated section of track.

The cause of the collision, which involved a Renfe and an Iryo high-speed train, has not been confirmed.

Castilla-La Mancha region spokesperson Esther Padilla said 147 people were travelling on the Iryo train and 397 on the Renfe train.
