Great news for the education community! The Ministry of Education (MOE) has officially announced additional school holidays in conjunction with the Deepavali 2025 celebration, which falls on Monday, 20 October 2025.
According to Sinar Bestari and the Academic Calendar for the 2025/2026 session, the ministry decided to extend school holidays on Sunday and Tuesday (Group A) or Tuesday and Wednesday (Group B) for all states except Sarawak. This thoughtful move ensures that teachers, students, and school staff have ample time to celebrate the Festival of Lights and spend meaningful moments with family and friends.
The breakdown of the additional holidays is as follows:
- Group A – Schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will be on break on 19 October (Sunday) and 21 October (Tuesday).
- Group B – Schools in Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Selangor, as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, will enjoy holidays on 21 October (Tuesday) and 22 October (Wednesday).
Sarawak (Group B) – Schools in Sarawak will observe a one-day break on 20 October (Monday).

This means that many will enjoy a five-day holiday stretch from Saturday through Wednesday — a well-deserved rest period for students and educators after weeks of lessons and school activities.
For students, the extended break offers a chance to recharge mentally and emotionally, spend time with family, and return to school with renewed focus and motivation. Many will take this opportunity to travel back to their hometowns, visit relatives, or celebrate Deepavali with friends from different cultural backgrounds — fostering unity and appreciation for Malaysia’s rich diversity.
For teachers and school staff, the additional holidays provide valuable time to rest, plan, and reset before continuing their teaching duties. The demanding academic schedule often leaves little room for personal time, so this break is expected to help improve overall well-being and morale within the education sector.
Beyond the celebration, this initiative demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its citizens. It reflects a people-centered approach — ensuring every community, regardless of background, is given time to honor cultural traditions and strengthen family bonds. The additional holidays are also a reminder that national development is not only about policies or infrastructure, but also about nurturing social harmony and understanding among Malaysia’s diverse communities.
By granting this extra break, the government once again underscores its dedication to the rakyat’s happiness, balance, and cultural respect — a true spirit of unity and care #DemiMalaysia.
