SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 — The Health Ministry has announced the use of face masks is now optional in indoor public spaces, effective today.
Its minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the decision was made based on the review of the current situation concerning the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Taking into account current needs, the ministry wishes to announce the wearing of face masks indoors is now optional,” he said in a statement.
However, Khairy said premise owners can determine if visitors are require to wear masks or leave it optional.
“Nonetheless members of the public are strongly encouraged to wear face masks as it has been proven to be able to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection.
“The new protocol will come into effect immediately today, on Wednesday, September 7, 2022,” he said.
