Facebook users globally faced access issues on July 19, with disruptions affecting logins and feed refreshes, especially on computers.
KUALA LUMPUR: Facebook social media users worldwide, including in Malaysia, have reported difficulties accessing their accounts and using the main functions of the platform.
The disruption that began around 3 pm local time saw users facing issues logging in, as well as failing to refresh their feeds, especially when using devices other than smartphones.
A check by Bernama on platforms X and Threads found that the majority of users shared screenshots of the system disruption notice displaying the message “Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes”.
A user on X, David Liew, confirmed the issue through a post on the platform, stating: “Facebook down….again…July 19, 2026 Malaysia Time 3.56pm.”
Another user with the account name @aldreichd reported that the disruption only occurred when accessing Facebook via a computer, while the application could still be used as usual through smartphones.
Meanwhile, the online service disruption monitoring site, Downdetector, also recorded a sharp increase in reports from users regarding Facebook access issues starting this afternoon.
According to the website’s data, among the main issues reported are the failure to upload photos and videos, as well as disruptions in the messaging function through the Messenger app.
Besides in Malaysia, international media reports also stated that complaints related to disruptions on the Meta-owned platform increased around 10.39 am Eastern Time in the United States, with the number of reports exceeding 4,000 complaints in a short period.
At the time of writing (5 pm), Meta has not issued any official statement regarding the cause of the disruption or the duration for the service to be restored.
