A viral video recently sparked rumours online that alcoholic drinks in stemmed glasses were served at a Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) event on 8 November.
Since then, the ministry has strongly denied the claims circulating on social media, insisting that no alcoholic beverages were served during the Minister’s Excellence Awards Ceremony.
“It was a ‘Cucumber Apple Slider’ drink”
In a statement, KPKT clarified that the drinks shown in the video were actually carbonated soft drinks and did not contain any alcohol.
They also explained that serving the “Cucumber Apple Slider” in stemmed glasses is just standard catering practice for formal events.
“The ‘Cucumber Apple Slider’ served to guests is a carbonated soft drink with no alcohol. Using stemmed glasses is a common practice for formal events,” the statement said.

A report has since been lodged
KPKT also pointed out that spreading such inaccurate information could damage the ministry’s image and the reputation of the guests who attended.
In response, they said a report has been filed with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further investigation.
“The public is encouraged to check with the ministry before making assumptions or sharing unverified claims. KPKT remains committed to ensuring that every event it organises follows proper guidelines, upholds integrity, and respects community sensitivities.”
