SUNGAI PETANI, Oct 20 — A food processing company near here was found to be using a halal logo without permission from the authorities on their products.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Kedah enforcement director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said this followed raids conducted on a factory producing noodles, kuetiau, laksa, tofu and tempeh in Bedong and a store on Jalan Angsana near here, at 11 am yesterday.

"The KPDN’s enforcement division in Kedah conducted an integrated operation with the Ministry of Health and the Kedah Islamic Religious Affairs Department, over the halal certification and marking used at the premises, the status of its halal certification, as well as its compliance with rules and regulations under KPDN.

"It was found that the premises were using the halal logo of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) on its products without the permission of the authorities, he said in a statement today.

He said products worth RM87,057 were seized during the raid and the case was being investigated under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011. — Bernama
