Factory worker charged with murder of father-in-law

A FACTORY operator was charged in the Magistrate’s Court in Seremban today with the murder of his father-in-law, following a fatal assault in Taman Rahang last month.

V. Karthiy, 32, was accused of killing 52-year-old P. Sasi Kumar by repeatedly punching and beating him in the chest, leading to the elderly man’s death at about 2.30 pm on April 27.

The charge was read out before Sessions Court Judge Hazeelia Muhammad, who sat as a Magistrate for the proceedings. Karthiy nodded to indicate he understood the charge, but no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death penalty or, if not imposed, imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nur’ Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer AR Thamayanthy.

The court set June 18 for mention, pending submission of the post-mortem and chemical analysis reports. - May 7, 2025
