A FACTORY operator was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today after pleading guilty to threatening to splash acid on and kill his own mother.

Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan imposed the jail term on Abdul Razak Manaf, 34, and ordered that the sentence run from the date of his arrest on Dec 22.

Abdul Razak was charged with criminal intimidation against his 72-year-old mother by uttering the words, “I will splash acid on you and kill you” (“Aku simbah asid dan bunuh kau)”, with the intention of causing fear of death or serious injury to the victim.

The offence was alleged to have been committed at a house in Cheras at about 4pm on Dec 22, under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment or a fine, or both.

According to the case facts, the incident stemmed from an argument between the accused and his mother after she asked for her mobile phone, which had been taken by Abdul Razak. Dissatisfied, he then threatened the victim by expressing his intention to splash acid on her and kill her.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, stressing that the threat involved an intention to kill and to carry out an acid attack against the accused’s own mother.

In mitigation, Abdul Razak appealed for leniency, saying he was a single father responsible for supporting five children aged between three and 11. He also told the court that this was his first offence and that he had apologised to the victim. - December 26, 2025
