EDUCATION Minister, Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, announced the abolition of several competitions and programs that are deemed to have no direct impact on learning as part of efforts to reduce the burden on teachers.

Sharing on Facebook, Fadhlina said the measures include competitions such as the most beautiful toilet, the most beautiful yard, the cleanest classroom and others.

According to her, organising such competitions does not just involve decorating activities, but also requires teachers to attend meetings, make preparations, prepare documentation and reports.

“There are meetings. There are preparations. There is documentation. There are reports. There is a lot of time and energy that has to be used.

“That is why we are starting to eliminate unnecessary programs one by one so that teachers can focus on what is most important,” she said.

She stressed that the most important thing is to ensure that teachers can focus their time on the teaching and education process of students.

“That is why we are starting to remove unnecessary programs one by one so that teachers can focus on the more important things.

“Teaching and educating our children. This is one of the seven initial steps to reduce the burden on teachers.

“The others? We will tell you one by one,” she added.

Fadhlina also hinted that the other six steps will be shared in stages through a sharing series titled “What is Fadhlina doing?” – September 2, 2026
