Fadillah: Kota Kinabalu power grid upgrade completed

A MAJOR electricity distribution upgrade aimed at strengthening the 33 kV and 11 kV grid network in the Sabah capital has been completed, with the Penampang Main Switch Station (SSU) going operational at 3.56 pm yesterday.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who also serves as Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said the RM22.4 million infrastructure initiative is the second project finalised this year under the Sabah Electricity Supply Special Project Team (PPKBES).

He said the project is intended to balance the load between key substations in the city, particularly the Main Input Substations (PMU) at Penampang and Kepayan, as well as the KKIA Main Distribution Substation (PPU).

“With the completion of this project, the duration of electricity supply disruptions can be reduced and the process of repairing electricity supply around Kota Kinabalu city will be faster and more orderly,” he stated in a Facebook post today.

Fadillah also extended his appreciation to all parties involved in the successful completion of the project, which forms part of the government’s wider efforts to enhance energy resilience and efficiency in Sabah. - May 17, 2025
