MUHYIDDIN's Moral Standing Questioned Over Addendum Criticism: ZAID Condemned FADMI's Remarks As "Pathetic"

The ongoing saga surrounding the purported “supplementary order” on Dato' Seri Najib Razak’s jail sentence has sparked a public exchange between former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Minister of Communication, Fahmi Fadzil.

PERIKATAN NASIONAL Chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, has come under fire for criticizing the government's handling of the "supplementary order" on Najib Razak's jail sentence. Minister of Communications and government spokesman, Fahmi Fadzil, stated that Muhyiddin Yassin has no moral standing to criticize government leaders on this matter. Fahmi Fadzil suggested that before speaking out, Muhyiddin Yassin should first address the issue of his son-in-law, Adlan Berhan, who is allegedly on the run from the law, to return to Malaysia for investigation by MACC centred on the award of a lucrative contract to him. This has sparked a debate on Muhyiddin's right to question the actions of the government.

Dismissing dissenting voices based on personal affiliations risks undermining the principles of democratic dialogue and accountability. Instead, fostering an environment where diverse perspectives are acknowledged and debated promotes a healthier democratic discourse.

Former Law Minister, Zaid Ibrahim, condemned Fahmi Fadzil's remarks, calling them "pathetic." Zaid Ibrahim argued that Muhyiddin Yassin every right to question the government over the handling of the controversy surrounding the "supplementary order."

Zaid Ibrahim questioned the government’s “hide-and-seek" approach rather than being forthright and professional about the matter.

"The Government seems to be not aware or show any focused interest in the "supplementary order". The Prime Minister has stated that he does not want to get involved and reiterates Najib house arrest bid is up to Pardons Board. Consequently, Najib finds himself compelled to pursue a judicial review, despite it being the government's duty to address the issue," he said.

He criticized the government's approach to the issue, stating that prompt action should be taken in response to decrees from the Rulers. Zaid also highlighted the potential consequences of mishandling such matters, emphasizing the importance of respecting the authority of the Rulers.

He emphasized that it was up to the government to provide answers, urging the Prime Minister to proactively refer the issue to the Attorney-General for resolution, and subsequently inform the public about the decree's status.

The dispute over the "supplementary order" has raised questions about the government's transparency and adherence to legal processes. It has also underscored the delicate balance between the government's responsibilities and the authority of the Rulers. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how the government will address the concerns raised by Muhyiddin and other critics.

The controversy surrounding the "supplementary order" reflects broader issues of accountability and governance within the Malaysian political landscape. The differing perspectives of key stakeholders highlight the complexities of navigating legal and constitutional matters in a democratic society. The outcome of this debate could have far-reaching implications for the execution of the law that involves government and royal institutions in Malaysia.
