Fahmi Fadzil: My candidacy is about reform, not position

DATUK Fahmi Fadzil has declared that his decision to contest for a seat on Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Central Leadership Council (MPP) for the 2025–2028 term is driven by a long-standing commitment to the reform agenda, not a desire for position or title.

The PKR information chief and Minister of Communications said his candidacy represents the trust and ideals of the Reformasi movement, which he has supported for over 25 years.

“For more than two and a half decades, we have stood together in this Reformasi movement—from the streets to Putrajaya, from seeking justice for the oppressed, to rebuilding a fairer and more transparent system for all Malaysians,” he wrote in a Facebook post today.

Fahmi stressed that PKR was never merely a political vehicle, but a movement grounded in principle and shaped by integrity, perseverance, and courage.

He added, “I humbly seek the trust of my fellow members to elevate KEADILAN (PKR) to greater heights—not just for us, but for future generations.”

The nomination process for the party elections closed at 11.59pm yesterday, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim returning unopposed as party president.

A straight fight is set for the deputy presidency between PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and incumbent Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.

Twelve candidates are vying for the party’s three vice-president posts, including four current holders—Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Negeri Sembilan Chief Minister Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, is the sole candidate for the Youth (AMK) chief role, while the Wanita chief post will see a head-to-head contest between Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail.

The PKR National Congress, including the AMK and Wanita Congress, will convene in Johor Bahru from 22 to 24 May, with voting scheduled for 23 May. - May 10, 2025
