Fahmi Fadzil: No Lockdown for KL During ASEAN Summit, But Major Road Closures Expected

Kuala Lumpur will not undergo a citywide lockdown during the 47th ASEAN Summit and its related events, but temporary road closures around the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) will be enforced to manage traffic flow, according to Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

“There will be no lockdown. Specific roads will be closed, and the affected routes have already been made public,” he said during the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing.

Fahmi, also noted that the summit taking place from October 26 to 28 will attract an unprecedented number of media representatives, including over 300 journalists from Japan alone.

Traffic diversions & road closures to begin in phases

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director, Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, announced that traffic diversions and road closures will begin in phases starting October 26. These measures will impact six major highways and 25 key roads across the capital.

Among the affected routes are:

  • Highways: KLIA Expressway, ELITE, NKVE, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, North-South Expressway, MEX, and KL-Seremban Highway
  • City Roads: Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Kuching, and others

The KLCC vicinity will be fully closed off on October 26 to facilitate summit operations.
