PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Communications Director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has cautioned political leaders against making statements that could strain relations among parties within the Unity Government.
Commenting on Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s remarks that Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) would not cooperate with DAP in the upcoming state election, Fahmi offered a brief response.
“Terlajak kata buruk padahnya (Loose lips sink ships),” he said when met after the Roundtable Conference on Safe Media Reporting on Suicidal Behaviour here today.
Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, did not elaborate on the matter.
Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who was also at the event, urged political leaders to avoid adopting overly rigid positions on political cooperation, noting that circumstances can change over time.
“Do not burn bridges, whether in love or in disagreement. We do not know what the future holds, so there is no need to be extreme, inflexible or overly rigid,” he said.
Earlier, Onn Hafiz had reaffirmed that Johor BN would not work with DAP if it were given the mandate to form the next state government.
The Johor BN chairman also said he would rather relinquish his position as Menteri Besar than cooperate with DAP in the state government’s administration.
