SANDAKAN: The Sabah Water Department Director should be sacked immediately for his failure to resolve the water crisis here as well as throughout the State, says Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong.

She said the district was still plagued by “salty taste” in water after three months, and last week it experienced yet another extended period of water disruption after the Segaliud Water Treatment Plant was shut for pipe repairing works.

Expressing frustration, Vivian said patience on the ground was wearing thin, with many people resorting to buying mineral water for their daily use.

“This is absolutely unacceptable. The situation has not improved after more than three months.

“The Director must be liable for this and dismissed immediately,” she said in a statement, Tuesday.

Vivian suggested that the State Government consider providing all Sandakan residents a six-month rebate in water bills to alleviate their sufferings.

“The management of the Water Department can’t just pretend that all are well. We are facing a water crisis here and we have yet to hear their explanation.

“Such nonchalant attitude and incompetence must be viewed seriously and action accordingly.”

Willie, a Sandakan resident, said he was disappointed with the Water Department for not issuing any notice related to the water disruption that occurred last week.
