SANDAKAN: The Sandakan District Health Office ordered three main bread and cake factories here to close for four days for not meeting hygiene standards during a two-day operation from Monday.
According to Sandakan District Health Officer Dr Johari Awang Besar, he was shocked by the negligence of the factories after finding rat urine in their factory areas.
He said there were 14 bread and cake manufacturing factories in Sandakan and only two of them had a food safety assurance programme under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
